Lattice matrix elements confronting the experimental value of ε′/ε

چکیده
A new lattice estimate of K → 2π transitions claims, contrary to all other computations, that the hadronic matrix element for the gluon penguin operator Q6 has opposite sign and, in addition, is much larger than the vacuum saturation approximation. We comment under what conditions (if any) it is possible to reconcile this lattice result with the experimental value of ε/ε . The dramatic impact of new physics in the kaon system that seems to be required is not easily accommodated within our present theoretical understanding.

Combined analysis of the unitarity triangle and CP violation in the Standard Model
We perform a combined analysis of the unitarity triangle and of the CP violating parameter ε′/ε using the most recent determination of the relevant experimental data and, whenever possible, hadronic matrix elements from lattice QCD. We discuss the rôle of the main non-perturbative parameters and make a comparison with other recent analyses. We use lattice results for the matrix element of Q8 ob...

During the last four years several parameters relevant for the analysis of the CP-violating ratio ε/ε improved and/or changed significantly. In particular, the experimental value of ε/ε and the strange quark mass decreased, the uncertainty in the CKM factor has been reduced, and for a value of the hadronic matrix element of the dominant electroweak penguin operator Q8, some consensus has been r...

We review the theory of ε/ε and present an updated phenomenological analysis using hadronic matrix elements from lattice QCD. The present status of the computation of ε/ε, considering various approaches to the matrix-element evaluation, is critically discussed. ⋆ based on the talks given by M.C. at “Les Rencontres de Physique de la Vallée d’Aoste”, La Thuile (Italy), 27 February–4 March 2000 an...
متن کاملε′/ε from Lattice QCD
Lattice calculations of matrix elements relevant for kaon decays, and in particular for ε/ε, are reviewed. The rôle of the strange quark mass is also discussed. A comparison with other non-perturbative approaches used to compute kaon decay amplitudes is made. † Presented by G. Martinelli.
متن کاملLattice Calculations and Hadron Physics
Lattice QCD aims to understand the strong interaction of hadrons from the first principles of QCD for quarks and gluons with the aid of numerical simulations. The physical quantities calculated with the method are many, ranging from the spectrum of light hadrons to a variety of electroweak matrix elements. Practical limitations such as finite lattice volume and spacing, and the use of the quenc...
